Neither being nor no-being was then.
There was neither the earth, nor the interspace,
Nor the heavens above,
What covered all this? Where and by whom
Was there the abyss of fathomless waters?
Death was not then, nor immortality,
Night was not yet separate from day,
Alone, the one breathed without air,
Self-sustained.
Beyond that nothing whatever was.
At first darkness in darkness lay hidden,
This universe was like a mass of waters
Undistinguished ,
That which lay secret in the void became
Manifest through the power of his
Contemplation.
There arose in his mind desire, the primal seed
Of manifestation.
The wise searching in their hearts discovered
Through intuition the bond that connects
Being with non-being.
Who knows who can tell truly
From whom the universe has come and
From where it sprung?
The Gods came after Creation;
The source from which the universe has arisen,
Does it have a support or not?
He alone knows who is self-luminous and the
Lord is the supreme heaven of Truth.
Maybe even He does not know
